Research determines most common causes of aviation accidents

The Federal Aviation Authority announced recently that it would close down 150 air control towers within the country because of budget cuts. If this happens, many people in Montana and elsewhere will be concerned about the effects of the closures on safety.

According to statistics, there has been a decline in the number of aviation accidents in recent years. The International Air Transportation Administration stated that serious plane accidents reached an all-time low last year. Among major carriers, there were 135 accidents that resulted in injuries or damage reported since 2010.

A plane crash, according to independent research, most likely happens for reasons beyond the control of the pilots, airline companies or aircraft makers. According to the same source, mechanical issues rarely cause accidents. In total, 17 accidents cited between 2010 and 2013 were caused by mechanical problems. A former pilot stated that engine failure and related incidents are common. The good thing is that pilots have training and experience to handle such situations. However, according to the former pilot, despite the fact that they know how to handle such cases, they can be very dangerous. There are few instances of aircraft accidents that are caused solely by pilot error.

Although the frequency of aviation accidents has been going down, when accidents do occur they often result in death or serious injury. The effects of a plane crash can be devastating not only to the victims but also to their families. When an accident is caused by negligence, faulty maintenance or a product defect, victims and their families have legal options. An experienced aviation accident attorney can help victims and their families evaluate their case and advise them on whether they have the basis to bring a lawsuit.
