Montana truck accidents come in different sizes

Regardless of the size, commercial truck collisions happen in Billings, Montana. These truck accidents often result in damages, serious injuries and, sometimes, even the death of motorists and pedestrians. Negligence is a major contributing factor among these fatal accidents. Other factors are distractions, fatigue and poor maintenance. Drivers and trucking companies can be held liable for any damages and physical injuries they inflict, according to state and federal laws.

Recent recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) caught the attention of small- to medium-duty truck associations, including the NAFA Fleet Management Association, which claims that the NTSB had some flaws in the conclusions that they have been drawing.

In a recent letter addressed to media outlets and the NTSB, NAFA argued that the board's report should provide more in-depth analysis. NAFA cited the failure to mention the safety record of managed fleets. The group told sources that they believed their safety performance was better than what the NTSB reported.

NAFA's main issue stems from the lack of categorization between single-unit straight trucks from other vehicles. The report pointed out that light- and medium-duty trucks are involved in approximately 9 percent of collisions. NAFA notes that only 3 percent of those accidents are actually straight trucks. Based on reports, NTSB classifies all non-hauling vehicles with a 10,000-pound weight capacity as single-unit trucks.

It is well-known that these straight trucks have the capacity to cause harm and injury along Montana's roads and highways, despite the perceived errors in the reports. It is recommended that motorists be very careful around any size commercial truck.

A trucking accident victim may consider the assistance of a well-trained personal injury professional here in Billings, Montana. The courts are known to award victims with financial compensation geared toward their recovery. A personal injury professional may be able to help with advice and assistance.
