Teenager dies soon after Montana hit-and-run

Unavoidable car accidents make roads dangerous enough. But preventable car collisions, which might include a hit-and-run accident, make people wonder how safe they really are on the road.

A teenager died soon after a hit-and-run accident near Lame Deer, Montana, east of Billings. Reportedly, the 18-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while walking on U.S. 212. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and rushed the car accident victim to Indian Health Services in Lame Deer, where he later died.

The authorities claim that the teenager was struck by a Chevy Suburban, apparently driven by a 42-year-old man, who allegedly fled the scene of the crash. Although the vehicle involved was found hours later, it is still unclear whether the driver was taken into custody. An accident investigation by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and FBI is ongoing.

It is certainly heartbreaking whenever a person dies in a car accident, particularly if the victim is a child or a teenager. Car accident victims who suffer serious injuries may be forced to go through a lot to recover and move on in life, but a deadly car crash takes everything away from the victim. Drivers have a sovereign responsibility to ensure the safety of others on the road. To do that, they must pay close attention to pedestrians and drive cautiously.

Additionally, in the event of a car accident, a driver needs to cooperate with the police. Failing to do so may result in criminal charges. If negligence led to the accident, then the driver may be civilly liable, as well. In such a case, if negligence of any kind is proven, the driver can be held accountable for the damages suffered by the victim or, in the event of a fatality, the family. To ensure the recovery of compensation for those damages, the family may file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible driver.
