Elderly pedestrian hurt in a Billings car accident

Many people, including the elderly, share the roads in Montana. While some seniors prefer to drive, others choose to stroll on the city streets. A wrong turn can be dangerous, and, unfortunately, both elderly drivers and pedestrians are less likely to react instantly in a risky situation.

A 70-year-old wrong-way driver hit an elderly Billings man, and left him with non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on North 28th Street and 1st Avenue North. The driver made a wrong turn and ended up in the wrong lane, hitting the 64-year-old man in the crosswalk. Responders took the victim to a hospital to assess his injuries. The driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and an improper turn.

A car accident can occur any time for several reasons. Carelessness places a threat to public safety. Traffic signs are all over the roads of Montana to ensure the safety of the people on the streets. In this case, it is important to establish that the driver had been negligent while navigating the road.

Inattention to traffic signs and signals, the flow of traffic and pedestrians can put the lives of vehicular accidents on the line, which are often associated with significant expenses. A pedestrian can sustain serious or even fatal injuries in a collision with a motor vehicle. The victim and his or her family can suffer because of overwhelming pain and suffering, medical expenses, funeral costs and lost wages.

In cases like this, where a negligent driver causes an accident, the victim can seek compensation to recover damages. The victim may consider agree to an off-court settlement. Nonetheless, it should be wisely considered. Otherwise, the victim may also consider filing a personal injury lawsuit; in instances of a fatality, a surviving family member may file a wrongful death lawsuit.
