Montana ranks high in motor vehicle accidents

Montana residents are probably aware that the state has far too many car accidents each year. A recent survey report confirms this, stating that within the previous six months, 14 people have lost their lives on Montana highways. The total is up from the previous year, where there were eight fatalities over six months.

A senior police officer said the figure is very depressing. This month, a three-year old resident of Billings, Montana died in a fatal car accident after the car caught fire, trapping the little girl. The car accident occurred on Interstate 90 between Livingston and Big Timber. A 36-year old woman also died recently near Gallatin Gateway in Montana.

Of the 14 deaths, three have been in July. It was also noted that in 2013, the total number of crashes stood at 96, while the total number of deaths stood at 111. In 2014, the number of crashes stands at 77 and the total number of deaths is 87. Most deaths occur on primary roads, including two-lane highways. Speed was a major factor in 31 of the car accidents. Alcohol was responsible for crashes involving 25 of the fatalities.

The pain and suffering in a fatal car accident is often immeasurable. If the person who dies in the fatal auto accident is the sole earning member of the family, the surviving members of the family can seek compensation for lost earnings, among other available damages. If there is a dispute over the compensation claim, a person may wish to consider consulting a Montana attorney for sound legal advice and knowledgeable guidance.
