Drowsy driving posing a problem for highway safety

Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents in Montana. Distracted driving, by its very definition, distracts the driver where the driver no longer pays attention to driving or the road ahead for a period of time. That can become dangerous for everyone else on the road, as well as the occupants of the vehicle and the driver.

Distracted driving often includes a fatigued driver who, maybe after a long day's work, falls asleep behind the wheel. Drowsy driving can also become dangerous because the driver's cognitive functioning as well as reflexes are compromised to a great extent.

Recently, it was determined that a Montana car accident was the fault of a drowsy driver, according to state authorities. The driver's car was destroyed and the driver was injured during the car accident. The state authorities also pulled over another fatigued driver on the road recently. Those instances highlighted the need to fight against fatigued driving.

The National Sleep Foundation has also found that over 168 million drivers in the country reportedly drove their vehicles while they were drowsy. Many drivers fall asleep behind the wheel. In a stressful work environment, people often complain that they have trouble sleeping and staying awake.

Sleep-deprived drivers and drivers who suffer from sleep disorders are more likely to fall asleep behind the wheel, especially if their drive is long. That can lead to serious injuries due to car accidents. Victims of such car accidents may be able to pursue compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
