Technology helping truck safety in 2015

Large trucks, although necessary, pose many risks on the roadways. And while residents in Montana and elsewhere understand the important role semi-trucks play in interstate and intrastate commerce, these massive vehicles often create large and serious accident sites when a collision occurs. Because of that, much effort is put in truck safety and devising ways to reduce these types of crashes.

According to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, or NTSB, truck safety has gone into a new direction in the year 2015. Truck technology has been listed as the top trucking industry focus when it comes to improving truck safety this past year and for future years to come.

The technology that improves truck safety the most are those systems that address anti-collision, better tracking of drive hours and mechanisms to tighten truck regulation oversight on trucking companies that have high collision rates. Safety systems currently on the market and are most desired include Driver information Warning Systems, Active Chassis Control Systems and Integrated Safety Systems.

According to current research based on the North American Class 6-8 truck safety system market, the truck market in the U.S. is expected to require roughly 917,069 truck safety systems by 2020. This figure is way up from 2013, which had 409,417.

Federal trucking regulations were passed with the safety of truck drivers and other motorists in mind. However, passing legislation is not always the most effective manner to address safety concerns in the trucking industry. Because of that, technology has been developed with these regulations in mind. And while the introduction of more truck safety systems has improved truck safety, human error can still occur and could be the culprit of a major truck accident.

Victims of a truck accident should understand that there are way to determine cause and fault in these incidents. Moreover, there are ways to hold a negligent party or parties responsible for the damages and losses he or she caused an injured truck accident victim.
