Man injured in oil rig fire in western N.D.

BISMARCK, N.D. - Officials say a worker was injured when an oil drill rig caught fire in western North Dakota.

A statement from the McKenzie County Sheriff's Department says Brian Busby suffered non-life threatening burns on his head and hands when the oil rig caught fire Tuesday afternoon near Watford City. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the fire happened on a Nabors Industries rig at a Whiting Petroleum oil well site. Officials say firefighters from Watford City and Keene responded and were able to extinguish the blaze with firefighting foam Tuesday.

North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources spokeswoman Alison Ritter says no oil escaped the well site. She says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Nabors officials did not immediately return telephone calls on Wednesday.
